On Zenox-08, a black spiral leaf opened twelve stomata along its underside. Each opening measured eleven micrometers across. Carbon dioxide entered. Seven grains of mineral dust did not.

Inside Ventilation Spine Twelve at Saint Orra, a cobalt-steel washer slipped from Maintenance Apprentice Jori Par’s glove. It bounced three times, rolled through a grille, and settled beside a fan that would click once every forty-seven rotations for the next nine years. Jori looked for it for twenty seconds and reported the washer as inaccessible.

Aboard a gray ship whose exterior carried no name, Technician Brell requested sweetener from the crew dispenser. The dispenser released two packets instead of one. Brell placed the extra packet in his left coat pocket. Ship inventory classified the loss as atmospheric evaporation.

Beneath the oldest nursery tower on Zenox-08, Habitat Battery Four declined from 11.701 volts to 11.700. Its alarm threshold was 11.690. The alarm remained silent. The small old man sleeping beside it woke anyway.

At the M314 gate, Kaiven returned to ordinary space carrying six people, one outstanding invoice, and less fuel than any of them yet knew.

Beside her, a living green veil arrived with one torn seam and thirteen new spectral bands darkened through its capillaries. Twelve belonged to the gate. The narrow violet band between them did not appear on the transit receipt.
