Leth appears for one simultaneous administrative event. Registrar Pavo receives a living reef in an enclosure wider than the passenger field permits. Pavo classifies the reef as structural moisture and lets the transit proceed. Its appeal waits behind forty-one questions about chairs. The reef is alive; the form is less adaptable.

Local life

Local life

The habitat processes travelers whose bodies challenge the idea of a standard corridor. Inspection volumes can be flooded, depressurized, darkened, warmed, or filled with carrier gas, but the software coordinating them descends from a form designed around one dry individual and optional luggage. Much local work consists of translating lives into categories without allowing the categories to become weapons.

Leth’s waiting areas include suspension pools, ceiling rails, root beds, swarm alcoves, and an officially ordinary row of chairs that has caused more litigation than any weapon stored on the station. Food vendors price meals by preparation risk. Appeal clerks exchange practical annotations in a private ledger titled THINGS THE FORM WILL LEARN AFTER WE RETIRE.

Reports and arguments

Reports and arguments

The reef’s final classification is not given in Book I. Travelers insist the case changed habitat law; administrators say review remains active. Both claims can coexist for decades in a mature queue. Local rumor says the reef now shades an entire arrivals hall. The public record merely says its enclosure was not returned empty.
