Morrow Deep is worked in rotating pressure shifts. Its crews maintain drills, gas membranes, haulage organisms, refuge chambers, and sensor lines that management calls redundant whenever replacement budgets are discussed. Workers call redundancy the reason anybody returns for breakfast. Shift meals are dense, portable, and never placed on Drill Nine’s vibration rail after an incident now taught entirely through gestures.
Safety knowledge travels through official training and unofficial memory. Engineers tap pipes, smell filters, read flame colors, and know which supervisor’s confidence rises as instrumentation fails. Chairs are scarce in the lower works, making the three-meter relocation both cowardice and a meaningful capital transfer.
